I sit on the terrace after a morning swim with my laptop on my lap, soaking up the peaceful atmosphere of a sunny morning on one of the last days of this outgoing year.

What was this “old” year like and what will the “new” year 2026 be like?

Turbulent? Surprising? Or even shocking? In 2025, we saw live the departure of an imperfect, but 80-year-old geopolitical order based on rules (e.g. the immutability of borders by force). A temporary vacuum is apparently setting in until it is definitively revealed what the new system will be, based most likely on unpredictability and force rather than the rules. In the meantime, we are getting used to the fact that uncertainty is the new and only certainty nowadays.

Thus, what can we expect from the new year? And what can we do for ourselves and our loved ones to make 2026 the best possible year for us?

We can probably expect the year full of surprises, and it remains to be seen whether of more positive than negative ones. We cannot rule out the so-called black swan, i.e. an unexpected event of a global significance that will have a radical impact on our lives. In today’s rapidly changing world, it is therefore important, more than ever, to be prepared, to have a plan B. Because those who are prepared today are not surprised tomorrow. Such a plan B can be your company abroad – our article from February 6, 2025, “Why seriously consider setting up a company abroad?” is therefore more relevant than ever.

Indeed, especially in the last two years with growing tensions in the world (e.g. war in Ukraine, Israel vs. Gaza conflict, China vs. Taiwan tension) we are observing a growing trend in demand for setting up a company abroad for reasons of diversification, plan B (e.g. Dubai/UAE) often associated with actual relocation to the new country where the company is established, with a new residence (e.g. Dubai/UAE, Greece, Thailand) and even with a new citizenship (e.g. Turkey, Antigua & Barbuda, St. Lucia, Dominica).

Our team of experts at Vasil & Partners, Benson Formations and Alpha Prime is ready to set up and help you implement your Plan B so that you are well prepared for the uneasy journey through uncertain times that likely awaits us in the future.

Wishing you the best possible year of 2026 and seeing you soon.

Thailand, 26.12.2025

Why set up a Trust? (2 of 6 Series)

The primary appeal of a trust is the asset protection and privacy it provides. Because assets held in a trust are no longer technically owned by the settlor, they are often shielded from personal creditors and lawsuits.
