The World Bank Group has approved a new Country Partnership Framework (CPF) for Benin, with an International Development Association (IDA) allocation of US$1.077 billion over the next decade, complemented by financing from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).

The framework is designed to support private-sector development, infrastructure, employment, human capital, and economic resilience. As international investment and development activity expands, foreign executives, technical specialists, and project teams operating in Benin should also consider the immigration and residency requirements associated with maintaining a long-term presence in the country.

Navigating Residency for Foreign Executives

Foreign nationals intending to reside and work in Benin for an extended period should assess the applicable residence and work-permit requirements rather than relying solely on short-stay business status.

For international companies establishing operations in Benin, the appropriate immigration status may depend on the individual’s role, duration of stay, employment arrangements, and the nature of the local business activity.

Where a foreign-owned company has an established Beninese operating entity, corporate documentation and evidence of the individual’s professional or economic connection to the business may form part of the applicable immigration and compliance process.

Supporting International Project Teams

Infrastructure projects, industrial developments, and private-sector investments may require international companies to deploy executives, technical specialists, consultants, and other personnel to Benin.

Businesses should therefore assess residence permits, work authorizations, employment compliance, and local registration requirements before personnel are assigned to long-term projects.

A coordinated approach to corporate and immigration planning can help businesses maintain compliant operations while supporting the movement of key personnel into Benin.
