Gibraltar

The Elite Red Ensign Standard

Gibraltar is a category 1 member of the British Red Ensign Group (REG). Flying this flag means your yacht is a “British Ship,” granting it the highest level of international prestige and the protection of the British Royal Navy and Consular services.

  • Expanded Eligibility: Under 2021/2022 amendments, eligibility has been extended to over 70 countries. This includes citizens and entities from the UAE, USA, Israel, and the Commonwealth, making it a truly global flag.
  • Fiscal Efficiency: Gibraltar is a VAT-free territory for yachting. Yachts owned by Gibraltar companies and cruising internationally generally do not attract VAT on purchase or import duties, provided they are not permanently based in the territory.

Malta

The Commercial Gold Standard

Malta is the largest shipping register in Europe. It is the jurisdiction of choice for owners who wish to charter their vessels commercially within the European Union.

  • The 2025 Commercial Yacht Code (CYC): We are experts in the new CYC 2025 requirements. We help owners of yachts over 24m navigate the new “Green” propulsion standards and stricter safety protocols for high-speed craft.
  • VAT Leasing & Recovery: Malta offers sophisticated VAT structures for commercial yachts. By operating a Maltese commercial structure, owners can often recover VAT on operational costs and benefit from duty-free fuel.

United Arab Emirates (UAE)

The Regional Powerhouse

As a Dubai-based specialist, we offer an inside track to the UAE Maritime Registry. The UAE is rapidly becoming a global yachting hub, particularly for vessels staying in the Gulf region.

Selecting the right UAE maritime gateway depends on the specific operational nature of the vessel or company:

  • Private Yachting & Leisure: Focused on Abu Dhabi (Yas Marina) and Dubai (Dubai Harbour, Mina Rashid, Port de La Mer, and Bvlgari). These locations prioritize luxury amenities, concierge services, and proximity to high-end lifestyle destinations for high-net-worth owners.
  • Offshore Holding & Asset Protection: Often structured via RAK ICC or ADGM. This focus is purely on legal and tax efficiency, allowing the vessel to be held in a tax-neutral environment while the physical vessel may operate or be berthed anywhere globally.
  • Commercial Shipping & Logistics: Best suited for Fujairah or Jebel Ali (DP World). These hubs offer deep-water access and the specialized infrastructure required for bunkering, cargo handling, and global trade routes.
  • 0% Corporate Tax Environment: We assist companies in meeting the specific requirements to be classified as a Qualifying Free Zone Person (QFZP), enabling a 0% tax rate on income derived from the operation, management, and chartering of ships in international traffic.
  • Participation Exemptions: Through precise corporate structuring, we leverage exemptions for asset appreciation and capital gains, ensuring that the long-term value of your maritime assets remains protected.
  • Global Compliance: Our solutions ensure your maritime holding structure fulfills all Economic Substance Regulations (ESR) and international transparency standards, providing a secure and sustainable legal foundation.
